Marriage License

You need a Marriage License to marry in the State of Florida . It is recommended that you get this legal aspect of your wedding out of the way a month before your wedding date. You do not have to be a resident of Florida. Both of you must be 18 years of age. No waiting period for non-residents of the State of Florida and three day waiting period applies for Florida residents. U.S. citizens need a picture ID (driving license), Social Security number, or valid passport. If one of you has previously been married, you will need to provide date of divorce, annulment, or spouse's death certificate. A marriage license is available in any county clerk's office in Miami-Dade Court, or you can look them up in the internet, see links below. Standard fee is $93.50 and remains good for 60 days from issuing date. For Florida residents there is a discount offered for a premarital course. Check with your county.

To obtain a Marriage License in:

- Miami-Dade County (greater Miami area)
- Broward County (Fort Lauderdale Locations)
- Palm Beach County
- Flagler County
- Polk County
- Indian River County
- Orange County (Orlando)
- Brevard County (Space Coast)

My most frequently asked question about the Marriage License is:

When do we get our marriage license back after the wedding?

This generally varies with different courthouses, but a rule of thumb is 4-6 weeks after the wedding. Your best bet is to ask the courthouse clerk when you originally receive your license.
